Speech Therapy

Regulated by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists

Speech and language therapy attempts to assess, diagnose and develop a programme of care to maximise the communication potential of the patient. It does have a psychological element, but tends to be physiological in nature. Because of this it can also help with feeding and swallowing difficulties. Within mental health this treatment is most often used to assist people with autism.

The limitations of speech therapy are the length of time the process can take as well as difficulty in overcoming physiological disability.
