History
For nearly 50 years Richmond Fellowship has been making a unique contribution to mental health services. Working since 1959 with people who have severe mental health problems, RF went on to became a national charity and housing association, known for comprehensive staff training programmes as well as a growing range of services.
Today we run over 120 services, from employment and community support to supported housing, care and nursing homes which serve over 3000 service users each year.
Current Activities
Portsmouth Services offers supported housing in houses managed by RF and a floating support service for people in their own homes. The houses consist of one 24 hour staffed project, and three medium to low supported services. Each service user has their own room with use of the communal lounge, dining area, bathrooms, kitchen and garden. The staff work in a manner which promotes greater independence, which will eventually lead the tenant to move into a less supported environment. Length of stay is up to two years depending on the individuals needs.
The support provided by the Portsmouth Services aims to give individuals control over their lives, in an environment that supports recovery. Skills include:
- Being self directed in own recovery
- Valuing individual strengths
- Building on self confidence
- Developing independent living skills
- Taking responsibility for self
- Developing social networks
- Communication skills
- Support to claim benefits
- Developing coping techniques to manage mental ill health
- Part of local community
- Support in accessing education, voluntary work and employment.
Our Objectives
The service aims to:
- Improve the quality of life for service users
- Increase their involvement in all decisions surrounding their lives
- Offer service users a supportive environment to develop independent living skills
- Support service users to move into independent accommodation
