CHANGES TO CARE PROGRAMME APPROACH
Under the Care Programme Approach Review the standard CPA will no longer exist from Oct 08 - only those with enhanced needs will be on CPA. Those on standard will obviously still receive appropriate support, but will not be known as CPA or involve the more complex paperwork. THE PORTSMOUTH PATIENT FORUM
The Portsmouth Patient Forum is one of the meetings run by Portsmouth Service User Involvement. It's a monthly meeting for current in-patients to share views and raise issues about hospital care and treatment. Since 2005 the Forum has brought many items to the attention of hospital managers.

AN EMPLOYMENT, EDUCATION AND TRAINING SURVEY
Raise Mental Health Ltd, the unique 100% Service User Training and Consultancy Company, were commissioned by CSIP to conduct a survey.
 
The questionnaire concerned the employment, education and training needs of people in the South East (excluding London) who have experience of mental health problems.
 
THE RESULTS ARE IN AND THE REPORT IS COMPLETED!!!

The survey will help create a South East Mental Health and Employment Action Plan and will be out for consultation in the spring of 2008.

EMOTIONAL SIDE-EFFECTS OF ANTIDEPRESSANTS
A team at the University of Oxford's Department of Psychiatry is interested in possible emotional side effects of antidepressants.

The primary goal of this newsletter is to increase across the City, awareness of all the fantastic work being done by the many agencies and individuals from both the statutory and voluntary sectors. FREE COUNSELLING SESSIONS:
Portsmouth Counselling Service is offering six free counselling sessions to anyone from a black or minority ethnic group, including refugees and asylum seekers. An interpreter can be provided if required. See our Services section for contact details.
 
This forms part of a wider cross cultural counselling project which has received Big Lottery funding for the next 5 years.

REVIEW OF LOCAL MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES:
The Healthcare Commission and Commission for Social Care Inspection recently conducted a review of Portsmouth mental health services. Those concerned with managing services are currently working on an action plan to address the issues identified. With a greater emphasis on user and carer views, the review specifically asked questions about:
  • the implementation of the Care Programme Approach (CPA);
  • information provided for service users and their carers, and their involvement in decision-making;
  • the administration of medicines;
  • direct payments for community care services, and;
  • workforce planning.
