CARE PROGRAMME APPROACH

The Care Programme Approach is nationally driven guidance on the planning process for people who are in contact with Specialist Mental Health Services. This approach is used to ensure a consistent person centred holistic assessment plan and review of an individuals needs taking into account Health and Social Care Factors.

Care Programme Approach (CPA) describes the system that identifies an individual’s needs and implements, monitors and reviews their support plans. The worker who coordinates the CPA is known as a Care Coordinator. In the city, we are keen to hear the views of people who have been subject to the CPA.

REVIEW OF CPA

Under the Care Programme Approach Review the standard CPA will no longer exist from Oct 08 - only those with enhanced needs will be on CPA. Those on standard will obviously still receive appropriate support, but will not be known as CPA or involve the more complex paperwork. Further information is available from the following Department of Health Publication:-
