Portsmouth Social Services run three art groups in the community for users of the mental health services. The groups run once a week at Cosham, Fratton and Southsea led by artist Julian Harrow.
 
People who attend the groups vary in their experience and ability. Some people have attended Art College while others haven't touched a paint brush since they were told [wrongly] they were rubbish at art at school.
 
I find that everyone has a creative ability and given time, space and encouragement can develop their own unique style. Everyone learns at their own pace and instruction is tailored to people's needs and ability. Subjects range from landscape, people, animals and flowers to work from people's own imagination through to completely abstract ideas. We use a variety of materials including, pencil, pastel, watercolour, acrylic paint and gouache.
